To make the items of the libraries available to as many as possible, a number of rules have been laid down.
Free lending is a benefit all citizens share. Consequently, there are rules concerning the use and sanctions towards those who do not observe the rules. A separate set of rules apply to the children’s libraries.
Library Tickets. In order to borrow items from the libraries, you must register as a borrower. You register as a borrower by showing valid identification, issued by the authorities, containing your CPR-number as well as picture ID for users above the age of 16. Children and young people below the age of 16 must produce identification and the signature of a parent. If you wish to use your sygesikringsbevis for borrowing, you can do so after having registered as a borrower at the library. You must add a PIN code of your own choice to your library ticket or sygesikringsbevis in order to use the loan machines in the libraries and to make reservations and renewals via the Internet. Your library ticket is a personal document and must be brought whenever borrowing items. The individual whose name is listed on the ticket is responsible for whatever is borrowed on the ticket. The library must be notified immediately if you lose your library ticket or your sygesikringsbevis. The library can block attempts to abuse your ticket. Until the owner of a missing library ticket/sygesikringsbevis notifies the library that it is missing, the owner of the card is responsible for whatever is borrowed on the card.
A replacement library ticket costs 20 kr. for individuals above the age of 16. Replacement tickets are subject to the same rules which apply to the original ticket.
Loans. The loan period is 31 days with the exception of special items. An overview may be obtained at the loans counter and is displayed on the library web page. Items with a 31 day loan period may be renewed for a maximum of 5 periods, provided that they have not been reserved by others. Renewals may be made by personal application and by telephone. Renewal via the Internet is possible. As a rule, other items may only be renewed once. 7 day loans may not be renewed. Should the items you require not be available on the shelves, they may be reserved. The library will send you a notice when the items you reserved have arrived. Upon taking delivery, you must pay the postage due. This, however, does not apply to long distance loans (loans from other libraries) or if the notice has been sent as e-mail. Children and young people below the age of 16 do not pay postage on reservations.
Overdue items. If the loan period is exceeded, a fee will be charged according to the current rates approved by the city council. An overview of the rates may be obtained at the loans counter and is displayed on the library web page. Borrowed items which have not been returned within five weeks of the end of the loan period are considered to be lost. The library will charge a replacement charge plus expenses for the lost item(s). The replacement charge is a standard amount which has been approved by the city council. The size of the charge depends on the type of the lost item. An overview of replacement charges may be obtained at the loans counter and is displayed on the library web page.
Breach of regulations. Damaged, destroyed or lost items must be compensated for. The borrower cannot compensate by providing the replacement item. If the lost item is later found, the replacement charge may be reimbursed within half a year upon the production of a receipt. If the bar code sticker has been removed from any borrowed item, compensation must be paid for a new bar code. The library accepts no responsibility for damages to the borrower’s own hard- or software which has been caused by the use of lent items.
Termination of loans. Any borrower who owes the library unpaid fees and/or replacement charges to the amount of, or exceeding, 200 kr. may not borrow further items until the matter has been settled. A written notification of the termination of loans will be issued 7 days in advance. The right to borrow can be temporarily suspended if the regulations are violated. A written notification of this will be issued by the library 7 days in advance. The amount due may be passed on to public recovery through a deduction in wages. If the amount owing for overdue items exceeds 200 kr, a distress may be levied.
Please remember to notify the library if you change your address or name. |
